A Clinical Study of Calcaneus Fracture in Children



Abstract
In the field of the orthopedic surgery, the fracture of the calcaneus is a frequent injury, but there have been few report about the incidence and the types of the fracture in children until recently. The Department of orthopedic surgery of the Korea University had treated 138 cases of the fracture of the calcaneus between the period of January of 1967 and December of 1978 including 3 cases of the fracture below the age of 10 years. Among the 3 cases, a case complicated by the severe skin injury of the ankle joint and the fractures of the talus and the distal 1/3 of the tibia showed no pain and limping on walking but complained limited range of motion of the joint because of the skin contracture around the joint. The other 2 cases, which were accompanied by no other injuries, showed ealier union and restoration of the function of the joint. No any complications common to the fracture of the calcaneus in the adult were noted in the later cases.
